Making Invitations part 2

Just a few pics to show the extent of Kaleb's involvement in the invitation making process! He threaded 15 metres of ribbon through 15 metres of lace, guillotined all the cardstock and stuck sticky stuff on the back ready for me to assemble the invitations. He even said he enjoyed it! The trail of ribbon and lace was so long it went out the back door!

Making invitations

Keeping himself amused at Spotlight

So we decided that it would be cheaper and more personal to make our own 'classic vintage' style invitations. Kaleb has been on board from the start and assured me that he wanted to be involved. So we set out to find some 'ingredients' to make invitations with. We trawled the reject shop, crazy clarkes, overflow, sams warehouse, big w and the scrapbooking shop. Now I must admit that I was adamant we wouldn't find anything at the cheap shops so I had to eat humble pie when we ended up buying crazy clarkes and sams warehouse out of pearlised cream and white cards! We decided to make the trek out to spotlight. It's a bit out of the way and not on a bus route and we still don't have a running car. I offered Kaleb to go to bunnings while I was in there but he wanted to be involved so he braved spotlight with tired and sick me! Poor Kaleb was so helpful and I was so indecisive. Let's just say Spotlight really isn't his favourite place to be and it shows how supportive he is! We came home with everything we needed and set to work making a prototype........12 cards in we realised we had noway near bought enough ribbon or lace and my loving, supportive fiancee ended up offering to go back to Spotlight the next day while I stayed holed up sick in bed. Did I mention that I love him? Anyway, the cards are looking gorgeous. Just wish I had more time to get them finished!

We have a Venue

Hooray all our hard work yesterday paid off! We have a venue! Thanks to a little phonecall to the local council, we can use Centenary Lakes free of charge on the day of our wedding! Having a venue = having a date! We are locked in for Nov 20th 2010 ... how exciting! Who wants to work out how many sleeps that is for me?!

Hunting for venues

With everything happening, Kaleb has since realised that there is more to 'getting married' than buying a ring and setting a date and turning up on the day. There's venues, guest lists, dresses, suits, shoes, food, decorations, photos, hair, makeup etc etc. He is being a trouper and putting up with it all, but it's really not his thing and I am learning to not chew his ear out about all my little (sometimes middle of the night!) thoughts and ideas. I really need to make some friends down here to talk to! Kaleb is glad that we are only getting married once and he is (at this stage) graciously letting me drag him around to find venues etc.

So we had earmarked this weekend to find a venue and set a date. Perhaps harder than we thought! I've always wanted to get married at paronella castle in innisfail...a bit far away so that one's off the cards. Roma Street parklands (where we initially wanted to get married) is incredibly expensive. Scratch that one. I don't deal with disappointment so well and it took me a bit to think of other alternative venues. Caboolture historical village stuck in my head (with the vintage theme and all) so I was super keen to check it out. Kaleb meanwhile had been to Centenary Lakes here in Cabbo and told me it would be a nice location. I still had the historical village on my one-track mind. So we made an appointment to check out the historical village today. My ever-wise bridesmaid Mim reminded me to check how dusty places are as I don't need to go into anaphylactic shock on my wedding day! The historical village is nice, quaint and small. Too small I think. The chapel would only seat 50 odd people.......my immediate family would have filled a quarter of the chapel! There was a cute bush chapel outside but it was even smaller. The grounds are nice, but very dusty. My lungs reminded me of this and I immediately lost my voice! I still like it there though and have asked for information on using it as a place to get wedding photos taken rather than to have the actual wedding.

Kaleb took me through Centenary Lakes on our walk home and after my inital processing time I think I've fallen in love with a new location. So maybe I fall in and out of love with these things too easily, but there is plenty of potential and some great spots for a vintage picnic reception. Maybe even a game oflawn boules after! Now we just need to ring the council tomorrow and find out cost and availability. Fingers crossed that it's third time lucky!

Planning a Wedding = stressful, tiring, fun and exciting all at the same time!

Who knew that getting married could be so stressful, tiring, fun and exciting all at the same time? So many decisions, so many choices, so much attention, so many things to think of, to do, to organise! A bit overwhelming initially, however after a bout of tears and Kaleb telling me that none of it matters and he'll marry me in his birthday suit to prove he loves me (I politely declined his offer!) I pulled myself back together and put on my 'Wedding Planner' hat and set to work.

A vintage picnic wedding has been my dream for a while, and with the help of my bridesmaid Sharnah and the expertise of my other bridesmaid Mim things are starting to happen! We have trawled wedding blogs, ebay and googled everything imaginable to come up with a colour scheme, styles and other ideas. I really want an elegant, exquisite and classy wedding but also have a very tight budget to stick to. Mim and I spent yesterday dress shopping, her from Gladstone and me here in Caboolture. Oh how fantastic the internet and phones are! We have now purchased my dress, Abbey's flowergirl dress and Sharnah and Mim's bridesmaid dresses all for approx $200 total. Boy are we good! We may not have a definite date or a venue yet, but we do have dresses and have found shoes we like! Nothing wrong with our priorities!

The Proposal

So Kaleb and I have been together for almost a year and had been talking about getting married. We had talked about rings, we had even looked at rings and talked about getting married a little more; but as neither of us has a lot of money had just put the whole idea on the backburner. Or so I thought! Then Kaleb got a bonus payment and asked me to find out my ring size.......right about the same time my friends and I spy him walking out of the jewellers. Things were looking up!

So I knew he had a ring, and he had let it slip that it was 'one of a kind' and his mum had seen it and said it was beautiful, so now it was time to guess 'when'! Talk about painful! All of a sudden Kaleb gets romantic and starts asking me out on dates again.....we went on a mystery date to the Thai restaraunt. Surely this was it? Nope. Maybe I'm glad it wasn't the time Kaleb chose to propose to me, as the Thai restaraunt was playing a cd of classic 'breakup songs'.....

A week later we decided to go to Sizzler with Kaleb's mum and his brother to celebrate Kaleb and Jake's birthdays. Kaleb offers to say grace and starts one of those very long winded, yet well worded prayers. Meanwhile I'm thinking how out of character for Kaleb to be saying such a long and deep prayer while there is a whole smorgasboard of food waiting to be devoured, when right at the end of his prayer he says something along the lines of "and thankyou God that Vicki is going to say YES when I give her this ring AMEN". It took me until I opened my eyes to register what he'd said, and even then all I thought to say was "ooo its so pretty!" (because the ring is gorgeous and I couldn't take my eyes off it!) talk about leaving the poor guy hanging! When I remembered to say yes it was relief for poor Kaleb, congratulations, toasts and a big feed of Sizzler food! A great night, and a lovely proposal from my finacee!
